Sunday Rounds

While PM is cooling his jets in Chicago anxiously awaiting his flight home-and the boy really wants to be home-I thought I would pinch hit in this space with the usual Sunday pensees here.

And no, I didn't get into his liquor cabinet while he was gone. But that's only because he left KM behind to guard the stash while he was gone after that sorry episode last Spring.

Good Government would be boring

would John McCain trade 5 years as a P.O.W. for 25 years of being an adult black man in the U.S. ?
would Barack Obama trade the other way 'round ?
would any adult capable of reading, trade a thousand of years worth of scientific discovery in order to think like Governor Palin ?
everything is "experience".  experience that matters, one way or another.  political choices matter.

"You Learn to Love the Rope"

from 'Rolling Thunder' (1977) William Devane, Tommy Lee Jones... beats the hell outta 'Taxi Driver' (funny how movies from the '70's are relevant again)

when everything goes right.... Jake La Botz

at the right time, in the right place, with the right people, in the right mood, LIVING can be defined and transcended, simultaneously. such combinations are so very rare, but they can more than compensate for the daily grind that comprises all too much of the rest of living to survive.

i had one of those moments wednesday night in Longview Texas. a much needed re-vaccination of sanity to combat the stupidity on this planet. 'cause in a world filled with screamers and shouters, it's the soft-spoken ones that are more worth listening to.

thank you so very much Jake. it was more than worth the effort.

Nova versus Maverick

my "great pumpkin" was a rather distinctive automobile, of which i was very proud. mostly because it wasn't a maverick. kinda funny how high school values translate to presidential campaigns thirty years later.

TIFF Day One

Have already knocked out Apaloosa (good non-revisionist Western), RocknRolla (Guy Ritchie's return to form), Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist (Juno-esque teen romantic comedy set in the Manhattan indie rock world with bonus points for featuring Bishop Allen), the better than I expected it to be Ghost Town and a Danish film called Everlasting Moments. Click the title for proof that I'm actually here.

Democrats speak out on Palin

Democratic leaders have been largely following Obama's lead in their discussions of Sarah Palin and her problems. "Really, she's one of the nicest and most photogenic inexperienced book-banning intolerant right-to-lifers you could find," said one, "but I think the personal life of that really pretty daughter is off limits." Asked for comment, John Edwards, enjoying a protracted vacation at his summer home on Figure Eight Island, 158.6 miles away from his presumably still-chilly wife Elizabeth, said "I have never met Bristol Palin and am not the father of her child."

Google Chrome is very good

unless you like to save a lot of web pages as text files
